- Can you tell us about your career path?
- After finishing high school in 1998, I enrolled in film school in Santiago de Chile, but soon abandoned the theory classes because the program did not interest me at all. I bought a small video camera and started shooting everything in sight, from family meals to the dogs in the street.
- Join in many artistic activities, but occupied by the cinema the most important?
- I've always drawn. It is a medium where I feel comfortable. I started playing for fun with my best friends, and suddenly the music occupied a central place in my life. From my beginnings until now, I participated in several musical projects and have recorded six albums. But becoming a filmmaker was a surprise to me. I went to film school because I did not like anything else. I thought that studying film would be less boring than the rest. Later that year in school, I started going back and forth between Chile and the United States, looking for ideas. I wrote several scripts, but none convinced me. So I wrote the third I was not satisfied.
- What is the relationship between Nana and her personal history?
- is something on his head since adolescence. I shot a short, I published a photo book about this topic. I was raised by nannies (maids). There was always one or two living at home. Living with them 24 hours a day leaves an indelible mark.
- How did you find Catalina Saavedra? Is it a professional actress?
- not the first time I ask the question and I would like to tell a romantic story, like I met her under a bridge, I took her home, I washed my face and became a star. But it was not.
Catalina is a professional actress who has worked mostly in theater and television, where he played comic characters. Had a minor role in my first film, La vida me mata, and exceptional talent won me over. He was convinced that it must be Rachel.
- How has it worked?
- stayed at my house and we read the script together. We also wanted the perfect voice for the character. Then imagine what it was Raquel physically. Catalina is much more agile than Rachel, and is one of the things that work.
- What are your next projects?
now I'm in New York preparing a new film, Second Child, which tells the story of a homosexual child of eight years for affection.
- Do you see a new generation of Chilean filmmakers?
- I do not think there is a generation that speaks with one voice or have created a style. I think there are different people who make totally different movies, always has been. But today it is easier to make a movie, it costs less money.
