To install mplayer should be installed Universe and multiverse repositories, so we provide a terminal and type:
sudo gedit / etc / apt / sources.list

then add the following lines to the text file sources.list: deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu
jaunty
universe multiverse deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jaunty universe multiverse

Save and close. then from terminal do:

sudo apt-get update

and finally installed as follows:

sudo apt-get install mplayer

To run mplayer go to Applications / Sound and Video / mplayer
